Montana requires that you be a resident of Montana to register your vehicle there.

But there’s a way around this…

A Montana LLC.

We open a Montana LLC for you (Dirt Legal will be the registered agent), and since it has a Montana address, you’ll be able to register all your vehicles under that LLC (which you own).

This means you’ll meet the residency requirements without having to be a resident. For more info, check out our complete guide here.

We’ll set up your Montana LLC instantly after receiving your order and you can expect your registration and plates in 1-2 weeks. Your title will arrive 1-2 weeks later. The LLC will get approved within 1 business day.

If you choose our “Temporary Tag” add-on, you can use the temp tag to ride within 1 business day.

At a minimum, we will need a title or SF-97 as a valid proof of ownership.

Your LLC will need to be renewed yearly which is $125 a year ($150 for one-time renewal) . You can have us handle this for you automatically so you don’t have to worry about staying on top of registrations every year.

Unless you plan on using the LLC to make money, you won't need to worry about filing a tax return for the LLC. You also won't need an EIN.

Once your Montana LLC is set up you can continue to add vehicles to that same LLC. All you need to do is select "Yes" that you have an existing Montana LLC when you place your order here. The cost will be the regular price minus $300.

If you already had Dirt Legal create an LLC for you and you would like to add another vehicle to that existing LLC, select “Yes, I already have a Montana LLC” above.

We will email you a form to select your plate options after placing your order. Custom plates take 3-8 weeks, but we’ll send you a FREE temp tag when your documents are on the way to the DMV.

You can also order a temp tag sooner by selecting “Add 40-day temp tag” above – it’ll come within 1 business day. If your temp tag expires before you receive your custom plates, we’ll send you a new one.

Instead of waiting the usual 1-2 weeks before you can start driving, you can purchase a 40-day temp tag and get your military vehicle out within 1 business day!

If your vehicle is under 12,000 lbs GVWR and 11 or more years old, you’ll get a permanent plate and you won’t have to worry about a permanent registration.

If your vehicle is 10 years old or newer, you’ll have to renew your plate every year at around $200 depending on the vehicle year. You can save $10/yr by signing up for auto-renewal.

In that case, we can set up your Montana LLC first here. Then once the vehicle is purchased, you can add it to your LLC by selecting “Yes, I already have a Montana LLC” on this page above.

The only additional cost the registration renewal if your plate isn’t permanent, and the yearly fee to keep your Montana LLC current. The cost is $125 per year ($150 for one-time renewal) and you can register for automatic renewal once your order is complete. There are no hidden fees or costs to get your vehicle registered!
